Reschedling

by 800/800 » Thu Sep 15, 2011 6:32 am
Hi,

I am new to this forum. I have my exam scheduled in the next 2 weeks and I am scoring 650-670.

I took Gmatprep1 and got a 650, took some Kaplan test 630. So I have this bad dream what is going to happen if I continue to score this way. Sc are the ones I am missing. So I got this weird idea why should not i reschedule my test. I am planning to take a month break and start my prep again and give the test in the month of Feb-2012. How far is my idea feasible.

I know that there are pros and cons in rescheduling.

Pros : I actually can plan it much better so that I can do a lot better. Math I am doing very good, so I just need a brush up before the exam if I reschedule . Verbal is the main part where I am not doing good enough. So I can really prepare well.

Cons : I might loose the track and seriousness and completely loose it.

So is the idea of rescheduling good. If it is good, is Feb-12 too long..

Can some experts through light on this thread and show me some directions so that I can..............

Thank you.

Hello 800,

What score are you aiming for? If you're already getting above the score you want, you should take it now. If you are not getting the score you want by next week, reschedule it -- make sure to reschedule before 7 days prior, otherwise you will lose your whole $250 fee. If you do it on time, you will only pay a $50 rescheduling / cancellation fee, I think.

One way to keep focused between now and Feb is to make goals, make a plan, and stick to it. I'm not an expert, but there is no real guideline saying how long is too long to study for the test. It seems to be more of an individual thing, which is what made me recommend that you take the test if you are already capable of achieving your target score.

All the best!

I am targeting at 720+, but my scores say I am 70-80 point below my target. SC are the ones which are troubling me.......

I guess I am giving up on this forum. I am exhausted waiting for replies from users. I dont think forum can be of any use to me.

Thanks a lot for a place to try. It was worth a try.

Hello 800,

Don't give up! Have you practiced any material before taking the two tests? Did you also write the essays? Have you read through the MGMAT SC book or practiced any OG questions?

Hi 800,

Try MGMAT SC/Aristotle SC, practice OG questions along with that, see if you can improve and achieve your target score. You haven't posted the individual scaled scores. If you are getting 650 and odds improving SC alone won't get you a 60 point increase. Familiarize yourself with parallelism, subject verb agreement, modifiers, tense forms and idioms. These are the most tested topics in SC. Anyways try improving SC and give another mock in a weeks time. If you aren't satisfied with your performance probably you can reschedule.

Hope this helps.

Hey there!
don't know if I'm late for this or anything...but just wanted to say hang in there man!
A lot of people toy with the idea of rescheduling before the GMAT...that's when the logical mind tries to comes up with pros & cons for each case.
I'm sure a lot of us have been there, done that!
Hell, I thought about it 300 times over the last 2-3 weeks; even logged in to mba.com a couple of times to see possible future dates. I posted some of my pros and cons in another thread, and elicited opinion from the forum. The network here is plain awesome. Ever helpful and constructive.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that the mind can always justify something it wants to do. I don't know about you, but I'm the kind of guy who loses focus when a deadline is not near. I guess I like to work under pressure that way.(don't we all?) :-D
So if you are somewhat like me, then I'd say go for it this time without the reschedule. Sure, you can prepare better if there is more time, but that is an ideal scenario. Besides, why not re-take the test after you've given the test and you are not happy with your score? that way, you'd have studied under supercharged conditions anyway (due to the test deadline).
The only disadvantages I see in this are the additional ($250 - $80 = $170) and the fact that all your scores are reported to B schools. Somehow, I'm not too worried about either points.
In the event that you are not happy with the current performance, your takeaway for the next months' attempt will be a real life simulation of testing conditions!
