No of chairs in each row = n
No of rows = n-1

Statement 1:
Total no of chairs = 72
n(n-1) =72

True only for n = 9

Sufficient


Statement 2:
n + n-1 = 17
2n =18
n=9
Sufficient

Let x be the number of chairs in a row then # of rows = x-1

1)x*(x-1) = 72 => x =9 Sufficient !
2) 2x-1 =17 => x=9 Sufficient !
