(A) is False. In my opinion it is very clear why this statement does not weaken the argument.

(B) is False. Our knowledge of the underlying mechanisms does not affect reality! The statement does not weaken the argument.

(C) is True. This fact would seriously weaken the argument. Extra ingredients might make a big difference!

(D) is False. This fact is totally irrelevant and therefore does not weaken the argument.

(E) is False. This fact does not weaken the argument.

The argument is that the spray is more efective than the gel (even though the ingreduients/conc is same for both ) since the cold virus tends to be more concentarted around the nose.


Choice C) weakens the argument by saying that there could be a different reason why gels are not effective -> since these contain citrci acid that interfere with the chemical effects of zinc in treating cold.

Doesn't C provide an explanation to why zinc logenzes are not as effective. I donot understand how this could weaken the argument.

IMO - C

The argument is if the zinc content is more effective when applied to the nose than when taken orally.

C weakens this because it states that it is not the zinc in the logozenes which is inefective. Instead , the other ingredients make it ineffective.

C gives an alternative reason(other than the presence of cold virus in nose..) why zinc logenzes are not effective and thats what we want in order to weaken the argument..
hence C is the best choice..

Should be C. It weakens the conclusion by providing a alternate reason for why the Zinc lozenges did not work.

answer C

Because we do not have any other choice which says that Zinc zel effectiveness is not due to the viruses= nose concentration , but due to some other reason, hence only other method to weaken the arg is to find a choice which gives a explanaiton to say why the zinc logonozes does not work - due to extra ingredient.

IMO E.
The conclusion here is : More virus in NOSE than in MOUTH.

If the research experiments shows the same results for gel (mouth) as well as spray ( NOSE), then in totality, both are ineffective in treating the cold and conclusively there can not be more virus in the nose.

IMO C

My reason is that it can be weaken by either proving that some property of gel not present in logozenes is making it effective
or
some property of logozenes not in gel is making it ineffective.

only c provides the later information so it has to correct

I went with C due to absurd reasons. First of all if this was real gmat I would have gone with A or C, maybe A more!!
But since you already marked A and then posted the question I assumed that you needed clarification on why you were wrong. But to be dead honest A and C are very close man!!
200 or 800. It don't matter no more.

Yes, A & C is very close. I will also go with C
"Native of" is used for a individual while "Native to" is used for a large group
