Ratios- installments on bike.

by fibbonnaci » Mon May 17, 2010 1:04 am
Rohan bought a bike for Rs.70000. This total amount was paid in installments. After paying the initial deposit of Rs 25000 by Rohan, the rest of the amount was paid by Arun, Rohan and his wife in the ratio of 4:4:1 every month for six months. After six months the bike met with an accident and had to be sold for Rs.28000. What is the amount received by Rohan, if the amount received is proportional to his investment on the bike?

A) Rs.12450 B) Rs.15000 C) Rs.18000 D) Rs.20000 E) Rs.22500

Assuming all Rs figures are in thousands
Rohan paid Rs 25
Remaining Rs 45 in the ratio 4 : 4: 1
actual ratio 9 (Rohan) : 4 :1
Rs 28 divided in this ratio = 18: 8: 2

IMO C

bike value=70000
rohan paid=25000
bal=45000
ditributed in 4:4:1 i.e say x tot =9x=45000 --->x=5000
arun contributed 20000
rohan 20000
and wife=5000
rohan's tot=25000+20000=45000
new ratio is 20000:45000:5000=4:9:1
sum is 28000
---->4x+9x+x=28000 or x=2000
hence rohan's share=9*2000=18000
C
Many of the great achievements of the world were accomplished by tired and discouraged men who kept on working

first he pays 25/70th or 5/14th of the amount.

in the remaining, he pays 4/9th or pays 4/9 * 9/14 th of the amount.

Total, he pays 5/14 + 4/14 = 9/14 of the total amount.

Hence receives ,
9/14 * 28,000 = 18,000. Option C
I think theme of the story here is ...
dont forget about downpayment that rohan made....
and find new ratio using it....
