Quick way to do this?

by Hate Standardized Tests » Tue Nov 25, 2008 1:41 pm
Hi,

I got the below problem on practice test 2 in the GMAT Test prep softwarre.

I know you can plug in numbers and solve them, but is there a quick way to finding the answer to this?

Any insights would be appreciated.

If x and y are positive, which of the following must be greater than 1/(root x+y)?

I. (root x+y) / 2x
II. (root x) + (root y) / (x+y)
III. (root x) - (root y) / (x+y)

THank you sooo very much.

Karen,

I think the problem has been posted before. You can use the search function.

When i solved this one using my approach I took x=16 y=9 and their sum would also be a perfect square which made the computations easier.

Let me know if you are not able to find it.

Regards,
Cramya

I tried searching around for it, but maybe I'm typing in the wrong keywords? Would you mind linking the post if you know where it is? Thanks!
