Yeah, so the way herbicides allow crops to grow is by killing off surrounding weeds that compete for resources (such as sunlight, soil nutrients, etc). In CR, you are not expected to use outside knowledge but they will expect you have to have good vocabulary. Knowing that herbicides kill plants helps us to understand that sentence. (We know "cide" means kill as in "homicidal" or "suicidal".)

Here in this argument, environmentalist says A caused B.But Author says A doesn't cause B.

Now we have been asked to "weaken" Author's stand.

So how do we do that???

One way i s to show that : Boss, A causes C & inturn C causes B which altogether means A has "some" indirect effect on B.

This pattern is depicted in Option A

Here A: Herbicides, B: Death of Chicks C:Decrease in weed population on which the birds feed up on.
