Question #29 on the O.G. pg 156

by Zohebh786 » Thu May 21, 2009 2:13 pm
Hi,

I know the long way to do a problem like this, but is there a shortcut

(16(20)+8(32))^(1/2)

I thought of taking the root of 16, but you can't do that because you have to do the parenthesis first, according to the order of operations.

Thanks

(16(20)+8(32))^(1/2)

16(20)=320
32(8)=256

320+256=576

576^1/2

576^1/2 can also be written as under root 576(according to law of radicals,we can write ^1/2 as under root) ,by simplifying under root 576 we would get 24.
Tell me if 24 is the right answer or not ?if not, then I am extremely sorry.
