1. The remainder when a (a>0) is divided by 4 can’t be

a) 0 b) 1 c) 2 d) 3 e) 4

--- e. 4 Rule: If a number is diveided by a number N, the remainder will always be < N.

2 If x divided by 15 it gives remainder of 3 which of the following must be true

I) x is even
II) x is odd
III) x = 5y + 3 for some integral value of y.
IV) x = 3y for some integral value of y.
a) I & II only b) I, II & III only c) II & III only
d) III & IV only e) I, III & IV only.
(D)
.. clearly I and II is wrong. That leaves only D as coorect answer. No need to solve further.

4 Remainder when x4 - x2 + 1 is divided by x-1 is

a) 1 b) 0 c) 2 d) x e) x2
(S

---- a. 1 ==> x4-x2+1 = (x3+x2)(x-1) +1
5 Difference between two numbers that are exactly divisible by 3,5 and 9 is always.

a) Multiple of 30
b) Divisor of 30
c) Divisor of 15
d) Multiple of 15
e) Multiple of 10
-- d. the number has to be a multiple of 45.

6 If 5 divided by x remainder is 1 and 5n divided by x remainder is also 1 where n & x are positive integes then x could be.

a) 0 b) 1 c) 6 d) 3 e) 4

obviously, x can not be 0 or 1. dividing by 6 will leave a remainder og 5 and dividing by 3 leaves a remainder of 2. Hence, x = 4.
