Some psychiatric studies indicate that among distinguished artists the rates of manic depression and major depression are ten to thirteen times as prevalent as in the population at large.
(A) the rates of manic depression and major depression are ten to thirteen times as prevalent as in
(B) the rates of manic depression and major depression are ten to thirteen times more prevalent than in
(C) the rates of manic depression and major depression are ten to thirteen times more prevalent when compared to
(D) manic depression and major depression are ten to thirteen times as prevalent when compared to
(E) manic depression and major depression are ten to thirteen times more prevalent than in

guys can we discuss this again
its a 3-2 split

i would go for E

1. more is being made precise or modified by the comparison subordinate clause

I would go with D. I feel that "rates" is redundant here.

Also,
among distinguished artists X is more prevalent than in Y
doesn't make sense. IMO, it should be either of the following..

among distinguished artists X is more prevalent than it is in the population at large.

or

among distinguished artists X is more prevalent when compared to the population at large.

rates is definitely redundant here....but the option E seems to be the most correct one...

IMO the manic depression and major depression are prevalent and not the rates..so that's why I did not go for rates..

OA IS E

the rates can not be prevalent

and the s/c requires more than instead of as ....as construction
