Leadership or Business exposure

by adityanfg » Wed Apr 03, 2013 2:29 am
Hello Clear Admit
I am 23 year old (male)mechanical engineer from India.
SRM University : gpa of 8.89/10
leadership roles in student organizations in undergrad.
GMAT =730
work experience:Deere and co.(worlds largest agriculture equipment manufacturer)
I intend to work for 3 years doing an MBA.I am facing a dilemma:
I have to now choose between 2 career paths in my organization:
1.production supervision,where I will have to lead a group of 50+ wage workers to execute the manufacturing strategies on the shop floor and ensure smooth operations.
2.Join the marketing department and function as an assistant manager and work closely with the business leaders and learn well how large businesses work.

I aspire to do my MBA from a top 10 B-school in the US.I understand that being from manufacturing industry,my application will be different from common ones.Which carrer path do you think has more odds of getting me there?

Thanks,
Aditya

Hi Adityanfg and thanks for your post!
In terms of your next steps, I would consider what you hope to achieve in your career and choose your direction based on that. What path is the best fit for you in terms of what you hope to learn prior to business school, and how would it tie in with what you hope to learn in business school and your post MBA plans.
