I am a total rookie in terms of B-school admission or the corporate world. Just decided today to give the GMAT a shot (I know, am sort of dreaming!).

I am interested towards 2016 fall admissions to a good US B-school (as have not yet started preparation or have any advanced information, I used the term "good" and not "one of the best"). I have the following queries-

1. Do the good (say top 30) B-schools require credentials verified by a third party at the time of submission of application or they do it on their own?
2. I did not have a GPA in my college in India. I read in some online forum a few hours earlier that you can convert your scores to GPA online by WES GPA calculator. But to my dismay, they did not have India in their list! So how can I get an idea of my GPA now? (I really need to know this before starting dreaming big!)
3. Is it real that the GMAT does not stress on an extensive and outlandish vocabulary unlike GRE? (if it's true then I am more than happy!)

This would be enough for now. Thanks in advance.

Regards

SD

You might want to read this article on MBA Admissions Evaluation Criteria. You can see that schools will look at the quality of your undergraduate institution, degree difficulty and percentage.

This other article compares the GMAT versus GRE. So, you are correct in your assumption that the GMAT tests vocabulary more while the GRE tests grammar more. You can download free official test software from GMAC here - https://www.mba.com/us/the-gmat-exam/pre ... tware.aspx.

For you other question, just tell the truth about your background and you will be fine.

Thank you for your response, but am still in dark regarding my GPA. I read the article you mentioned, but it did not answer my question. I know medical graduates from India rarely do apply for MBA in the top B schools and even rarely do graduate from one. So my condition is kinda unique. I want to know whether I hold any chance for the top tier B schools before starting the preparations for GMAT et al. I talked with the admissions committee of a middle tier US B school(rank 35-40) B school and it says they will take me in regardless of my GMAT score, but I know my future prospects won't be much bright there.

So here is my brief CV, honestly tell me whether I hold any chance for the top tier B schools for a Healthcare Management MBA.

10th grade 91%, President's Award for 1 subject
12th grade 89%, President's Award for 1 subject
MBBS 60-67%, no GPA, top 10th class percentile
Work Experience- 3+ years
Interested in health care administration, although no work experience in that field yet.

MBA target- Fall 2016.

Thanks, help or valuable insights from anybody would be highly appreciated.

Your 10th and 12th grade percentiles will not be evaluated by MBA admissions committees. Admissions committees will have previously evaluated Medical College applicants in your circumstances and so have a way to measure the quality of the Medical College, the difficulty of your M.B.B.S. degree and class rank as they would for any other applicant in a different field. If the MBA admissions committee has not had many M.B.B.S previous applicants, they might weigh your GMAT more. You not having previous experience in healthcare might make your application less competitive.

The answer to your chances depends on a mix of how high your GMAT is and what you consider top tier along with the quality of your application.

I would suggest you take a first step and see how you do on free GMAT practice exams by GMAC and take it from there. https://www.mba.com/us/the-gmat-exam/pre ... tware.aspx

I am glad. Let me also say, I can appreciate how the overall process must be overwhelming. Gauge your competitiveness on the GMAT. Also, research bottom-up the best healthcare programs and their placement success in healthcare for international applicants looking to work in the U.S. You can reach out to career offices and student clubs from each school. Just remember that your emotional intelligence and self-awareness is being evaluated so you want to be very appreciative.

Best of luck,
