Problem Solving Help Please.

If you can explain step-by-step instruction I would greatly appreciate it. Be Simple...

I was able to come with 1 way to solve the problem but it toke more time for me and it does not seem efficient. So I was wondering if anyone might have easy way of solving and does not require much time.




Salesperson A's compensation for any week is $360 plus 6 percent of the portion of A's total sale above $1,000 for that week. Salesperson B's compensation for any week is 8 percent of B's total sales for that week. For what amount of total weekly sales would both salespeople earn the same compensation?

comp of A = 360 + .06(sales above 1000)
comp of B = .08(Total weekly sales)

let Total weekly sales=x
b= 0.08x
a=360+0.06(x-1000)

so we neeed to find x st

0.08x=360+0.06(x-1000)
0.02x=420
x=21000

what is OA?

Are you sure it is $21,000. I solved it in a form of Algebra. Hence I came up with x = 15,000, but I was hoping anyone might have an easer way of solving it.

360 + .06 (x - 1000) = .08

360 + .06x - 60 = .08x then solve for x
300 = .02x

15000 = x


if anyone know any easer way and simple please let me know Thanks!!!!!!!!!

0.02x = 300
x = 15000

Its 15000 only.

360+.6(x-1000)=.8x

x=15000

I got confused because the question says A's total sale above $1000 and not the total weekly sales.

I think this is the best way to solve this... other way could be to deal with options... but I would prefer the former... it shouldn't take more than 1 minute to solve this using the former method...

300 = 0.02t

30,000 = 2t

15,000 = t

Why use 't' for both and assume that A's total sales for the week are the same as B's sales for the week?
