Unlike most severance packages, which require workers to stay until the last day scheduled to collect, workers at the automobile company are eligible for its severance package even if they find a new job before they are terminated.

A. the last day scheduled to collect, workers at the automobile
company are eligible for its severance package.
B. the last day they are scheduled to collect, workers are
eligible for the automobile company's severance package
C. their last scheduled day to collect, the automobile company
offers its severance package to workers.
D. their last scheduled day in order to collect, the automobile
company's severance package is available to workers.
E. the last day that they are scheduled to collect, the automobile
company's severance package is available to workers.

The OA is E

Why is (D) incorrect?

Choice D is correct.
Choice E is ambiguous in refering to "the last day". Choice D clarifies it by refreing "their last day", which is emloyees' last day.

Choice E lacks clarity in meaning. 'the last day that they are scheduled to collect' literally means that the workers collect days, and that they have to wait until the last day that they're allowed to collect.

I guess we all are sure why A B and C are wrong.

D is definitely the correct answer here.

The comparison errors in A B and C make them incorrect.

E requires workers "to stay until the last day that they are scheduled to collect" which changes the intended meaning of the sentence. Remember to maintain the meaning in the original question (which here in option A was "the last scheduled day").

The ans must be D.
