Can someone tell me how the answer went from y/2-6+y to 3y/2-6? Thanks.

y/2 - 6 + y

put the "y"s side by side:

y/2 + y - 6

get a common denominator of "2":

y/2 + 2y/2 - 6

add up the "y" terms:

3y/2 - 6
