A very nice question indeed logitech. That's where GMAC beats most of us... such beauties... I think this is a false idiom kind of a question. The idiom is used correctly only in B, but B appears as if farmlands is being modified by which, which is incorrect, so a better option would be to choose an answer which eliminates the idiom altogether... Systematic clearing did A and B
Not only but also is very obvious usage of idiom and that's where the trap lies. Just like pronoun questions, sometimes the best option is to get rid of the pronouns and re-write the all sentence without ONE.
D is concise and reflects the meaning clearly without using an idiom.
