Powerscore CR - really the Bible of CR?

by nehs » Sun Sep 05, 2010 8:49 pm
Yeah,I was scoring terribly in the VErbal section and got myself the MGMAT SC and CR books. In addition, I also bought the powerscore CR( My SC scores started to increase the moment I went rhough MGMAT SC book,WOW!!)
Has anyone used Powerscore? It seems to have some 300+ pages. With 3 weeks to go for my test, is it worth while reading through the book - atleast to increase a few points.
Also, another question - how is the MGMAT CR book different from this one? I read the MGMAT but it looked like too much theory for me to digest. I could not even follow the diagrammatic appriach that is given in the MGMAT.

Any insights/opinions will be extremely helpful.

definitely it has the worth.
2 weeks are good enough to go though the book.
then for 1 week, you can practice the other questions,

Hi..If you have just 3 weeks to go I would suggest that you concentrate on important chapters which are based on questions which frequently appear like-main point/inference,strength/weaken,assumption.I also would suggest to go through the first 2 basic chapters which provide a good foundation on tackling any kind of CR questions. You can skip other non important chapters like numbers, parallel reasoning etc.And in the end if you have time you can cover the skipped chapters.

Life is all about ass; you're either covering it, laughing it off, kicking it, kissing it, busting it, trying to get a piece of it, or behaving like one.

Agree with RyanDark. With 3 weeks to go, covering important chapter of the CR Powerscore bible will help.
I was faring terribly with CRs before I read this book. The reasoning problems were more of literature and language to me at that time. I also had difficulty in deciphering the arguments sometimes. The book inculcated in me a more logical and scientific approach for tackling CRs. I know some of my friends who, after reading this book, now solve CRs as they'll solve math. If you read the starting chapters carefully, the last one's (parallel reasoning etc) would be cake walk.

As for the MGMAT CR book, I never read it. If you find it difficult to digest then I'd suggest do not read it. Mostly because while you go through the MGMAT CR book you'll hear "can't-understand, can't-understand" in the back of your mind, and that will only hamper comprehension.

Thanks Ankita. I cannot even imagine attacking CR questions like Math. May be it is for the 750 + people :-)
I am going to go through first 2-3 chapters and then decide if I need to do the rest.
