Pls suggest on my Univ selection

by acumen » Wed Sep 03, 2008 8:07 pm
Request you to evaluate my profile and give your inputs. Please do let me know whether the schools I have opted for would be a realistic try or too optimistic. Do suggest schools which I can consider a safe bet too. Would also be helpful if you can evaluate my chances for scholarships.

Dear acumen,

I think you have a good profile, but the schools you are targeting are highly competitive for international students. While still a little bit of a reach for you, I think UT-Austin and Cornell are probably the most reasonable of your list. The others are a bit more of a stretch.

It is possible you will get in to one (or more) of these schools depending on how well you write your essays and resume. I would suggest identifying some programs that are in the top 30-50 range as safety schools. These schools do not generally have the same size applicant pools as your target schools, so it a little easier to distinguish yourself from other similar applicants. Regardless, your essays, resume and interview are crucial and will be what gets you an admission letter.

Best of luck,
Lisa
