Please Evaluate

by older_guy » Wed Dec 10, 2008 10:42 pm
I just took my GMAT yesterday and would love an honest opinion on my chances at Kellogg. I would be enrolling in the part-time program that starts June ’09. Here is my profile:

GMAT = 710, Essay 5.5
AGE = 37 years old
GMAT = Male
ORIGIN = Hispanic
EDUCATION = DeVry University (Chicago)
DEGREE = B.S. Business Administration/Finance
GPA = 3.61/4
WORK EXPERIENCE = 7 years as a real estate agent
1 year as a data analyst

Does my age hurt me? If I can’t get in Kellogg I will apply to Depaul. Since I’m married with a child I have to stay local.

Thanks in advance!

Dear older_guy,

Your age is not a negative. What is important is that you have a solid rationale for getting a MBA and a well-thought out plan for what you will do when you finish. Part-time programs tend to trend up a little on age and experience from traditional full-time programs, so while you might still be on the higher end of the range, you will have more company in the 30-40 yr old range.

Good luck,
Lisa

I think you should apply to both Kellogg and DePaul. DePaul is a great program, so it is definitely not a consolation prize to Kellogg. Just put the strongest application forward you can and let the chips fall.

Best of luck,
