Hello,

I recently took the GMAT
650(Average score wit just one month of prep but an ok Q/V split I believe ?)
Q 47- 79th percentile
V 34- 69th percentile
AWA-5.5

Profile :
Engineer/Decent grades/English schooling/ Extremely good at the language even being a non native speaker.

I have 26 months of IT experience (SAP) in one of the top firms across the globe. A few certificates for high performance in my tenure there. Solid recommendations at my disposal from the managers there as they were extremely impressed with my work and did not want me to quit the job. I am in touch with all of them till date.

Currently an entrepreneur(Since September 2010).
My designation-Partner of a corrugated board packaging Industry.
I am currently automating all the processes here with my IT skills. The firm was born last year with the idea and research conducted while I was busy working for the IT firm.

I somehow took out a month off and took the GMAT but I have little idea what to do next. I have got back to work and really finding difficult even to sit on Google and research my MBA programs. What about TOEFL ?

However, I do wish to apply this fall. (nanyang, rotman, duke's, sp jain singapore/mumbai )

what are my realistic chances ? where do i start ?
Should I hire a consultant ?

Kindly advice.

Kumar,

You may want to raise your GMAT for Rotman and Duke. Given your well-balanced score after only one attempt and a month of prep, I don't doubt you'll be able to. You don't need to take TOEFL if you can prove that the language of your undergrad instruction was English. Assuming you have decent leadership stories and can show some well-roundedness outside of your career, you should be competitive at Nanyang and SP Jain and at Rotman and Duke if you raise the score.

As for hiring a consultant, they can be helpful, but then I am biased. :)

Good luck,

Kumar,

IT person turning entrepreneur. It's a good story. However, use this time to reserach on your post MBA goals which should help you to answer why you want to do MBA at the first place in the manner that will be convincing to the admissions committee. Your GMAT is a weak spot when considering the Indian demogrpahics and since you still have a lot of time, do consider retaking the GMAT is you think you can increase it by another 40-50 points.

Also, this would be the right time to start building your extra curricular activities, if you haven't had any. Regarding TOEFL, you will probably get the exemption anyways so don't break your head over it.

Hiring an MBA admissions consultant can really help you but go for a quality one. Check out our website where we have written how to select the right MBA consultant! You might find it useful.

Good luck!

Hello Experts,

I am planning a retake with 3 months of solid study atarting 1st april 2011.

I have already appeared gmat once 47/34-5.5, looking for a high 700 now and apply to ISB/Insead/Nanyang this year(2012-2013). studied only 37 days last time over for a decent splitted 650. Got calls from a couple colleges this year but not taking it up.

Profile by august 2012 : - Professional experience - 4 years
2 yr top IT- SAP-analyst.
2 yr entrepreneurship.
1.5 year TEO(the earth organization south africa)-NGO-exec head operations- India.
Engineer from Univ of Pune, decent grades all over.
I am a good writer of essays/sop's. I reviewed the GRE sop's of a few friends and my personal goal essays are also surprisingly good as per feedback of most people who read them.

Also this year I had applied to all colleges for OTM(operations and tech management). I dont think its intelligent for me to get back to IT after a long break of 2 years.

How is OTM at ISB/Insead ? anybody knows abt employment opportunities that come up for the same? I dont wanna come back to own business immediately after an MBA.

I am planning eveything in advance for next year. This year I went with a slack approach and screwd up eveything.
Cheers !!
