Peterson's (ARCO) and McGraw Hill Guides

by shaden » Mon Oct 13, 2008 9:13 am
Does anyone know how the Peterson's/Arco's 'Master the GMAT 2009' and the McGraw/Hill's 'GMAT 2009' compare to other guides in terms of difficulty of practice tests?

Are they harder than Kaplan/Princeton? They seem harder than OG, but I have just started the OG.

Thanks

Arco and McGraw Hill are never said to be the true representative of GMAT tests. However OG will certainly give you a real flavor. But if you really wanna know about the question patterns you could take the GMATPrep tests and see where you stand.

I've never seen anyone here recommend Arco or McGraw Hill. Stick with GMATPrep, Princeton Review, etc. Kaplan gets a lot of complaints too, so I wouldn't recommend them.

I guess your post of 2008 thought old would be worth answering for all those people, who might leave out good books just because the people who replied before me did not see/read those books.

I am just giving the 6 tests of Peterson and 6 tests of McGraw Hill. I find them good.
I feel Peterson has a good number of hard questions. all 700-800 level GMAT.
McGraw Hill is comparatively easier...the level is like MGMAT.
I would strongly recommend Peterson once you have exhausted tough questions like the ones in Kaplan.

I am following Peterson's Master the GMAT 2010 and McGraw Hills's 2008 book and giving my opinion only from the VERBAL perspective.

Ive used McGraw 2009 edition. I didnt have access to online CAT's so wount coment on that. The questions in the book are ok difficulty, easy to mid range difficulty comparing to MGMAT. Some typos. The ultimate down side of McGraw Hill is its inadequate presentation of the topics. The problem set seemed difficult to me be because the book never explained properly the concepts to solve those problems. After buying MGMAT guides, those problems suddently appeared simple to me.
