A. Loma Simpson, whose refined and impassioned work is the subject of a twenty-year retrospective at the Whitney Museum of American Art, added words to her photographs
B. The refined and impassioned work of Loma Simpson is the topic of a twenty-year retrospective at the Whitney Museum of American Art-she added words to her photographs
C. At the Whitney Museum of American Art, Loma Simpson, who created refined and impassioned work, which is the subject of twenty years of a retrospective, added words to her photographs
D. Loma Simpson, whose work is refined and impassioned, the subject of a twenty-year retrospective at the Whitney Museum of American Art, added words to her photographs, but
E. The subject of a twenty-year retrospective at the Whitney Museum of American Art is the refined and impassioned work of Loma Simpson, who added words to her photographs, yet
B - Two independent clauses connected using DASH. The secondary information ( refined and impassioned work of Loma Simpson is the topic of a twenty-year retrospective) has given equal emphasis as the main statement ( Loma Simpson added words to her photographs )

C- "At the Whitney Museum of American Art" MODIFIES added suggesting that Loma added words at the Museum (change in meaning). twenty years IS DIFFERENT FROM twenty-year retrospective

D - presence of two BUT does not make sense (BUT NOT.... BUT)

E- The secondary information ( refined and impassioned work of Loma Simpson is the topic of a twenty-year retrospective) has given equal emphasis as the main statement ( Loma Simpson added words to her photographs ). PHRASE stating with YET is not connected with rest of the sentence properly

The dash before "not" is not underlined, so it is something that we cannot change. It does not make sense to place a conjunction before a dash, so we can eliminate D and E. A, B, and C all correctly use the ending phrase to modify the words that were added to her photographs.

C makes it sound like she added the words at the museum.

B creates an odd construction: The refined work is the topic - she added words - not descriptive captions.

A works. Loma Simpson, whose work is the subject, added words - not descriptive captions.
