Hey there,
It definitely doesn't get viewed positively. GMAT scores follow a fairly standard diminishing returns set up. As you approach 800, the relative impact of point improvements decreases. But, at the earlier stages, they make a big difference.
Schools provide a 80% range for a reason and let in very few folks below that range. So yes, a 630 is much better than a 610. And you should try to target within the range if you can, versus the edge. A 650 or 660 would be preferable.
