Hi all,

I took the GMAT today and ended up with a 690 (49,35). I was getting around 740 in the mocks, but I guess the test pressure did me in. Could anybody please tell me how my chances are for ISB? What are my chances at the 10-20 ranked US business schools?

Hey don't be too hard on yourself - 690 is still a pretty good score! If you're planning to retake, then I suggest you focus on the verbal, since it's obviously your weakest point.

I'm not an admissions consultant, but from what I understand Indian applicants typically have very high "stats", so if you're shooting for top 20 you'll probably need to retake.

I realise verbal is where I need to concentrate.
I used the Manhattan guide for SC and I feel it has helped me. Could you please suggest any similar material for CR and RC quality practice?

Hi rseeker2,

I am sure its tough to accept the fact that you missed out on 700 that close.Nevertheless, congs for the score.
I was tempted to post you on this looking at yr profile as I its completely similar to mine. I am planning to take gmat in sept09.I have been preparing mainly from OG12 and OG11. I was looking for some online Test material for practice. Can you recommend me something on this?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Quant scores matter more than Verbal. So with a 49 you are in good shape. 35 in Verbal is not horrible and you'll probably get in wherever you want if the rest of your app is strong. 49/35 is a problem only because 35V is below 80%ile. If you can raise it to 38 then you are in good shape.

Same thing happened to me yesterday -- got 690 too

It's a score that won't help you but won't hurt you too much either. I was very disappointed as well because I was getting 700+ in my mock tests. My downfall was caused by poor time management.

For ISB 690 is not bad if you have a non-IT profile. For top 20 US schools it's a decent score if you have good work and leadership experience.

If you are targeting round 1 applications then you should just go ahead and apply.
