In 1990’s, there are more babies born by women over thirty years old than under it.

(A) than under it
(B) than were they under it
(C) than had been under it
(D) than were the babies
(E) than those were under it

OA A
Why not
E ?
In 1990’s, there are more babies born by women over thirty years old than babies born by women under thirty years.

(A) than under it

I hope you can understand why (A) is correct now. By the way I think the THOSE in E clearly refers to babies, but the construction was awkward.

In 1990’s, there are more babies born by women over thirty years old than those born by women under thirty years.

Hey All,

Just to be sure an expert has weighed in on this.

This is a ridiculous question in every way. You don't say "In 1990's," you say "In the 1990's." And if you said that, you'd need a past tense verb, if this question was written after the 1990's, or a present perfect verb, if it was written during the 1990's (or a future tense verb, if it was written BEFORE the 1990's! those years are OVER). But the present tense verb "are"? Totally crazy wrong.

Ignore this question. Run for the hills. Screaming!
