You are correct Niraj.

One in 5 Americans is singular.

But when you introduce a relative pronoun who/that, then it will take the verb of the nearest antecedent.

e.g.

One in 5 Americans works shorter hours and saves time...

One in 5 Americans who work shorter hours and save time

fantastic answer!! so it is true that it's singular, BUT in this case WORK and SAVE are correct!!

that is wht i said in my post, it will be singular but what about use of 'their' in A & B .
