E is wrong because of parallelism issue, if you notice initial part of the sentence says "accounted for much of the local artisans' creative energy" and latter part starts with "as well as construction and decoration of the temples that enshrined them"............it would have been parallel if the latter part would have been "and for construction and decoration of the temples that enshrined them"mundasingh123 wrote:In ancient Thailand, much of the local artisans' creative energy was expended for the

if you see option D then "and also constructing and decorating the temples enshrining them" falls apart from rest of the sentence as it seems that only "creating images of Buddha accounted for much of the local artisans' creative energy,".......if option D would have been like "creating images of Buddha and constructing and decorating the temples enshrining them accounted for much of the local artisans' creative energy" then it would have been better..........mundasingh123 wrote:D. creating images of Buddha accounted for much of the local artisans' creative

How can I make D correct? I guess as below
energy 'accounted' in "making" images and time 'expended' in "constructing" temples for the same.

First take: 640 (50M, 27V) - RC needs 300% improvement

Hi, i think Op D multiple problems
1) it has a run-on sentence error
Op D:
In ancient Thailand, creating images of Buddha accounted for much of the local artisans' creative
energy, and also constructing and decorating the temples enshrining them
part in green is an Independent clause connected to a phrase (in red) via COMMA + FANBOY incorrectly.
secondly, if u think that the part in red is a modifier and hence correct then, this modifier is completely wrong...why??? because if u ask question from the modifier "who constructing and decorating..." then it should be "artisans" but no "artisans" is present in the preceding clause...the only related word present there is "artisans' creative
energy" which is equal to "energy"....this means that modifier is modifying nothing and its totally wrong.
Hope this help!!!

Fanboys more often than never connect an independent clause to a phrase .atulmangal wrote:Hi, i think Op D multiple problems

I love to see pictures of pets and posters with inspirational quotes .

Your example for connecting independent clause and phrase is correct because you haven't used comma. But opD is using 'comma+FANBOYS', which is used to connect independent clauses. Hence, D is wrong.
Cheers!

A verb that functions as a noun (such as constructing in answer choice D) still suggests tense.mundasingh123 wrote:In ancient Thailand, much of the local artisans' creative energy was expended for the

E. the creating of Buddha images accounted for much of the local artisans' creative

EDIT : How to eliminate D ?
My question is not how to arrive at the OA .
OA B
In D, constructing...enshrining suggests that the two actions are happening at the same time.
Since the constructing has to happen before the enshrining, eliminate D.
Answer choice B avoids this issue by using the noun construction, which does not convey tense.

In GMAT, COMMA + AND either connect the final element of a list of more then 2 items or to connect 2 independent clause.
For example: modifying your example: COMMA + AND connecting final element of list.
I love to see pictures of pets, posters, and stars with inspirational quotes.
so if u sum up the understanding and apply in Op D, there COMMA + AND neither connecting two IC's nor connecting a list of items. hence COMMA + AND usage is clearly wrong.
"In ancient Thailand, creating images of Buddha accounted for much of the local artisans'creative energy"
i think this above written sentence is okay.
In the above example, the independent clause is "I love to see pictures of pets and posters"Fanboys more often than never connect an independent clause to a phrase .

Could you you also clarify if there is any other change in meaning besides the point that you mentioned about both the actions taking place at the same time .
Is (D) grammatically correct ?
Does D convey that " constructing and decorating the temples " is also responsible for much of the local artisans' creative
energy

X accounted for much of Y, and also Z.
The purpose of the red phrase is unclear: did X and Z account for much of Y, or did X account for much of Y and for much of Z?
Since the purpose of the red phrase is unclear, we should eliminate the answer choice.
