Official Guide 10th Edition

by HW » Mon Feb 26, 2007 8:27 am
Hello,

I'm sure this has probably been asked a thousand times, but is it ok to study the 10th edition for the GMAT? Also, I looked at another thread and it indicated that there was a grid classifying the question types, but I didn't see it in that thread(it just says to register to view, which I did but still can't see it).

Thank You.

OG10 is still a great textbook to use.

You should be able to download the Grid now that you are registered. Be sure you are logged in and go back to the discussion thread that features the Grid, and you should see a link to download.

Best of luck!

If you can get the 11th edition instead, I would do that. The 10th edition is too easy for the GMAT because it's fairly out of date at this point.

OG 10 OK

by aim-wsc » Tue Feb 27, 2007 7:18 pm
Many GMAT takers I have seen who used OG 10 & still managed to score well.
OG 11 is better of course. but for extra problems go for OG 10. I think they have more problems.

You have to re-enter to the site and re-log in once you got a confirmation mail then only you can download the stuffs.

I know you guys said that the 10th edition is still a good book to use, I was just wondering now whether studying with the 11th edition can substantially increase your score. I don't want to miss my target just because I was studying with an older edition. Do you guys think that using the 10th edition can lower your score significantly?

Thanks for all your help.

nothing "lowers" your score. and not by reading Standard book like OG 10. NEVER.

Read it carefully again what I./we said,

but OG 11 is always my first choice.

How many days you have for GMAT preparation?

I've been studying since Jan 14th and my test is on April 11th.

I phrased my question incorrectly. I just meant to ask whether studying with the 11th edition is substantially better than studying with the 10th.

Thanks for your quick reply.

you can stick with material you have.

No need to invest money for so short period. ...thats what I think.
TRY some other materials that are readily available www

OG 11 however makes you aware of GMAT-KINDDA question.

ATB :)

Thanks for your help. I just read that there is a 75% overlap between the 10th and 11th, so the 10th should be sufficient.

Can I ask you one more question? Are the Official gmat verbal and quantitative review books useful or are they just questions taken out the official guide? For example, would the quantitative review book be all the math questions in the official guide or is it a book that explains math prinicples that are to be tested.

Again, thanks for all your help

75% is much exaggerated... wont go beyond 20% I think even less...
if you compare OG 10 & OG 11

But it will be purely waste of money if you purchase OG Verbal & OG quant books since almost all problems are taken from OG 10 there...

hope this helps

Helps a great deal. I read the 75% stat in one of the other threads entitled "Are these books enough" or something like that. Someone named Stacey mentioned that stat.

all right,
I was not there when the topic you mentioned were discussed. I checked it now...
Theres some mistake... but dont worry my information is true so go with it.

OG verbal & OG Quant can go along with OG 10.
But you can GO for OG 11 & OG 10 simultaneously.

I'll post a reply there.

OG 10th and 11th

by GCHall840 » Fri Mar 23, 2007 8:00 pm
Hi GMAT study "group"..
I am taking the Manhattan GMAT course where they assign questions from the OG 11th edition to correspond with their own strategies and problem sets. Accordingly, they also use the OG Math and Verbal Reviews.
One of the Manhattan GMAT instructors said that they cover every problem and question from the OG 11th edition and from both the OG Math and Verbal Reviews. I think that the OG Reviews have a lot of the same questions that the OG 10th edition does. But, when I am finished with the Manhattan GMAT course in May, I am going to go through the OG 10th edition looking for problems and questions that I did not see in the OG 11th edition and in the OG Reviews, too. That is, if I have the time.
