If you divide by a larger number the quotient will always be zero and the remainder will equal the dividend. Dividing 4 by 5 the quotient is 0 because 5 goes into 4 zero times and you have 4 left over so that is the remainder. If it was 14 divided by 5, then the quotient would be 2 because 5 goes into 14 two times and you would have 4 left over so again 4 would be the remainder.
