New strat on the fly

by brood1989 » Mon May 02, 2011 6:34 pm
Hello all,

I desperately need help. I've been studying for little
over a month now, and need to change my strategy. I
started out great, working hard (did the 8 MGMAT series
books) and had the basics pretty well down. I completed
all math questions in OG 11, however my latest practice
scores aren't really at what I think they should be. I'm
trying to change my approach. I need a structured strategy...
do/did you guys do 10 of each problem a day...etc? I'm
a bit confused on the best method to start improving on
the harder questions now. Any advice? My scores have ranged
from about 550-600 (around Q43-Q47 / V26-V33). I've identified
SC as a weakness and have been re approaching questions. Also
I think I've been taking way TOO many practice exams..any
suggestions on how many I should take per month? Ideally I want to
score 670-700 range (target schools are Haas / NYU Stern PART TIME..
averages are a bit under 700). This test has me stressed out beyond
belief, even though I have no scheduled test date currently. I just
really want to hit my goal, but I'm starting to doubt my ability.

Woah! That is a lot of panic in one post.

Point 1: Never doubt your ability. Everyone has different ability levels, admitted. But the minute you doubt yourself, it makes you perform way below what you can do ever.

Look at your quant: You have done 47. Look at your verbal: You have managed 33. Combine the two and you will get a high 600s score. :) That should be encouragement enough.

For math, I think 10 problems a day is too less. Don do daily, but whenever you do, make sure you are doing 30-40 quetions. 20 PS and 20 DS maybe? THis is to ensure that you are doing as many questions as you will see on test day. Take about one test a week. analyze your tests. Track your errors.

Using MGMAT SC guide for your concepts? And maybe BTG/Aristotle SC questions?
Vineesh,
Just telling you what I know and think. I am not the expert. :)

Thanks for the advice, I decided to take a few days off from
studying because I have finals. I'm going to not stress over it
for a few days, and then start practicing problems for awhile, focusing
on what I am weak at. Going to not take a practice exam for a week or two
from now.
