I got this question in the GMATPrep test. I picked D also, but the OA is C.

I'm so confused.

& GMATPrep does not give any explanation, correct?

I am getting crazy with this SC. A changes the meaning of what I originally perceived the sentence to mean. I can't find any reason & did not see any logical comments on why D is wrong.

Now your post on C being the correct answer is making it even more crazy. Is anyone out there who can stop this confusion once & for all?
