Rainy day

by ritula » Mon Sep 22, 2008 12:19 am
A contractor estimated that his 10-men crew could complete the construction in 110 days if there was no rain. (Assume the crew does not work on any rainy day and rain is the only factor that can deter the crew from working). However, after 5 days of rain, on the 61-st day, he hired 6 more people to finish the project early. If the job was done in 100 days, on how many days after day 60 was it raining?

is OA= 5?
My logic:

5 days before 61st day, it was raining so work had been done for 55 days i.e. half of the work done.
now, 55*10 = 550 man-days of work still left
Now, contractor hires 6 more men, making it a total of 16 and work is over in next 40 days. but, 550/16 = 34.4 (approx.) i.e. work should have been over in 95 days itself.
hence 5 more days account for rain.

I also think its 5 days.

whats the OA?

actually few efforts are left and this is making me worry about my answers.

Question says:
If the job was done in 100 days
and no
If the job was done on 100th day
