Although the batting coach conceded the new lineup, in which the players' strengths were better utilized, he said that in the future they must be agreed upon by all managers before being put into practice.

A. conceded the new lineup, in which the players' strengths were better utilized, he said that in the future they must be agreed upon by all managers before being put into practice

B. conceded the new lineup, in which the players' strengths were better utilized, he said that future lineups would require the consent of all managers before putting them into practice

C. agreed to the new lineup, in which the players' strengths were better utilized, he said that future lineups must be agreed upon by all managers before being put into practice

D. agreed to the new lineup, in which the strengths of the players were better utilized, he said that in the future, they must be agreed upon before having been put into practice

E. agreed on the new lineup's utilization of players' strengths, he said that in the future the lineups must be agreed upon by all managers before they have been put into use

IMO -Ans C....
Conceded means that he agreed reluctantly. It has to be conceded to something for example to the decision, but here it is referring that he is conceding to the line up,hence A and B are out.

E- is too wordy and awkward.
Between C and D-the pronoun "they" is not referring to any particular antecedant.

I'm not an expert :P..i might be wrong

The players were- With the a plural verb can not be used.

Only E sub-verb correct...thought its little wordy...but should be the right answer.

I do not see concede / agree is themain reason.
the pronoun they is hanging in most of the sentences. B and C sounds close.

But in Option B 'Them' may refer to "lineups" or "managers"
Hence C
This time no looking back!!!

Thanks all.
@GMATkiss - Why do you think would require is wrong in choice b ?
b) conceded the new lineup, in which the players' strengths were better utilized, he said that future lineups would require the consent of all managers before putting them into practice

@Navami - Choice e has correct usage of they."They" have a antecedent lineups.

E. agreed on the new lineup's utilization of players' strengths, he said that in the future the lineups must be agreed upon by all managers before they have been put into use
Do you think choice e is wrong on the basis of awkward construction and wrong idiom "agreed on" ?

@ashhchdg - Even I think the use of concede is wrong in choice A and B.It should be "conceded to".
But I have read somewhere that concede can be followed by Noun. And "Line ups" is a noun. So, I am not very sure about correct usage of concede.

Can anyone please let me know on what basis we can rule out choice B(As I feel use of would and them is correct in the choice)
Please share your opinion. Thanks in advance.

OA - C
Two issues with B:

1) use of 'would' is appropriate when 'from our perspective (ie reader's perspective) - the future (of coach) is in past. For example, The coach said in 2009 that India will win the cricket world cup in 2011. Since the coach said that in 2009, usage of WILL is correct as he is making a prediction about 2011. But from reader's perspective 2011 cricket world cup is already over and therefore the correct senetence should be 'The coach said in 2009 that India WOULD win the cricket world cup in 2011.

We do not get any such indication from the sentence and therefore 'would' may not be appropriate.

2) use of 'them' - it can refer to lineups and managers both --ambiguity
