Of all the houses on Kermit Lane, 20 have front porches, 20 have front yards, and 40 have back yards. How
many houses are on Kermit Lane?
(1) No house on Kermit Lane is without a back yard.
(2) Each house on Kermit Lane that has a front porch does not have a front yard.

Let the total # of houses with front porches be FP
Let the total # of houses with front yards be FY
Let the total # of houses with back yards be BY

So, the combinations are
FP and FY
FP and BY
FY and BY
just FY
just FP
just BY
FP, FY and BY

(1) No house on Kermit Lane is without a back yard.

So
FP and FY = 0
just FY = 0
just FP = 0

Hence total# of houses = Houses with backyards =
40; Sufficient !
(2) Each house on Kermit Lane that has a front porch does not have a front yard.

# of houses with backyards is not mentioned and the statement by itself isn't sufficient.

Option A
