I think its D

Read it this way

the behavioral model of child development recommends that parents pay attention to X and Y and Z

In ans choice D if use read the sentence after blocking out the phrase

analyzing the meaning of the data gathered from these observations

then it becomes a proper construction

To maintain ||ism, we need 'adjust' & not 'adjusting'. B & C out.

A changes the meaning because of 'can'.
E is wrong because it breaks ||ism.

D is best.

I may be wrong but here are my views .

The first thing that strikes is the word RECOMMENDS + THAT --------- subjunctive construction .

RULE : when using subjunctive construction the verb should be in BASE form that is the form that is used after TO . Ex : To run , To play etc.

Only one option has it B .

One more thing to note here is comma (,) + AND is coordinating conjunction that is it should join to complete clauses . B satisfies this rule also .

In the end option E is too wordy to be correct.

(A) style, and in analyzing the meaning of the data they gather from these observations, can adjust

(B) style, and they analyze the meaning of the data gathered from these observations in adjusting

(C) style and, in analyzing the meaning of the data gathered from these observations, adjusting

(D) style and, analyzing the meaning of the data gathered from these observations, adjust

(E) style and, in their analysis of the meaning of the data they gather from these observations, they adjust

its true but isnt ",and they" redundant?. also the meaning is slightly changed by using 'in adjusting'

They here has a clear antecedent . In-fact if we remove THEY the part after comma + And will have no subject and hence will violate the rule that two parts joined by coordinating conjunction needs to be main clauses .

Also adjusting ----- works fine .

I hope I have answered your query.

would like to go with D
because of the construct ", adjust " which is parallel to the given sentence which is not underlined.

The behavioral model of child development recommends that parents pay attention to their child's emotional sensitivity and attachment style, and in analyzing the meaning of the data they gather from these observations, can adjust their parenting style to encourage their child to be more independent.

(A) style, and in analyzing the meaning of the data they gather from these observations, can adjust

(B) style, and they analyze the meaning of the data gathered from these observations in adjusting

(C) style and, in analyzing the meaning of the data gathered from these observations, adjusting

=> pay attention to X and Y and adjusting.---NOT Parallel.

(D) style and, analyzing the meaning of the data gathered from these observations, adjust

=> "Analyzing the meaning of ....", Adjust----> It means that adjust is doing the task of analyzing.
=> Again, Parents pay attention to X and Y and, analyzing the meaning of ..---Comma + VerbING has been wrongly used. It means that parents pay attention by analyzing ...

(E) style and, in their analysis of the meaning of the data they gather from these observations, they adjust

=> They pay attention and they adjust.----It is run on sentence because no comma has been used before "and".

The skeleton of the sentence:

The behavioral model recommends that parents pay attention to their child's emotional sensitivity and attachment style, and in analyzing the meaning of the data they gather from these observations, can adjust their parenting style to encourage their child to be more independent.

If we omit the non-essential modifier, we get the following sentence:

The behavioral model of child development recommends that parents pay attention to X and Y can adjust their parenting style to encourage their child to be more independent.

=> Pay attention can adjust.

=> Thus the original sentence is NOT correct.

Answer MUST be B.

a clear D - there is nothing wrong in 'analyzing....' as it is a non-essential adverbial modifier.

clearly the report recommends parents to do 2 things (i) pay attention (ii) adjust their bahavior

D wins

IMO D

If parents have to perform two actions, then why two separate subjects???
We can use a single subject and associate two actions (pay and adjust).
analyzing the meaning of the data gathered from these observations= NOUN modifier that modifies Parents, which is implied.
