The growth of the railroads led to the abolition of local times, which was determined by when the sun reached the observer's meridian and differing from city to city, and to the establishment of regional times.

(B)which was determined by when the sun reached the observer's meridian and which differed
(C)which were determined by when the sun reached the observer's meridian and differing
(D)determined by when the sun reached the observer's meridian and differed
(E)determined by when the sun reached the observer's meridian and differing

OA -E.
In my opinion,the answer is (D).I'm unable to figure out why it is 'differing' instead of 'differed'.Please help me out on this one.Thanks!

plz put OA in spoiler next time.
e) is because 'differed' is related to time and not SUN (sun cannot differ from city to city)
there is no parallelism, as the statements are all different in meaning and construction - the only way for the author to link them within a sentence is to put 'and' each time the new statement is introduced.

remember {?}, when the parallelism is consistent in the sentences BUT then is broken at one instance, we always use 'and' to introduce the different construction. The same method is applied here but in more abundant way, i.e. all constructions are different.
