What had been the average speed of Michel's Bugatti Veyron including stoppages' time, in her round trip from Los Angeles to Chicago when the two destinations are 2018 miles apart?
(1) It took Michel 1 day, 6 hours, and 5 minutes to reach Chicago from Los Angeles, while she saved 3 hours and 25 minutes on her return.
(2) Michel took exactly 5 stoppages in her up journey, four of which were exactly 1 hour long and the fifth was 5 hours long; while she took exactly 4 stoppages in her down journey, three of which were exactly 45 minutes long and the fourth was 4 hours long.

Is it [spoiler]{A}[/spoiler]?

Distance = 2018*2

To find: Average Speed

Average Speed = 2*2018/Total Time

Statement 1:
Chicago to LA, GO = 1 day, 6 hours, and 5 minutes
RETURN= (1 day, 6 hours, and 5 minutes) - (3 hours and 25 minutes)
Total Time = GO + RETURN
SUFFICIENT

Statement 2:
GO = 4Stoppage (4*1) + 1Stoppage (5hours)
RETURN = 3Stoppage (45 mins) + 1Stoppage(4hrs)
We are not told about the travel time..
INSUFFICIENT

Ans is indeed A with slight correction

Average speed of round trip = Total distance of round trip / total time == 2(2018)/total time

Your answer matches with mine. Just to check your thought process, why didn't you choose C? Which phrase of the question stops you taking them together? Curious!

Hello Sanjeev,

I could make out that {A} is enough to answer the question and that {B} is not enough..

We need Total Time which we could get from {A} .. as this option gives complete travel time including stoppages and you have clearly stated in the question "including stoppages' time"..

So.. why go to {C} :)

But it can possibly trick an average test taker who may infer "including stoppages' time" as if this time is to be included, so include that wherever you find that, and Gone :)
