The 10 Best GMAT Stories of 2011 – Number 5

by Beat The GMAT, Dec 27, 2011

This article is part of a 10-part series where we will be highlighting the most popular GMAT stories of 2011 from the Beat The GMAT community, in countdown fashion.

Some of you may be thinking about your New Year's Resolutions. Well, taking the GMAT might be one of them! That's exactly what havok thought about the same time last year. He then scheduled his test 5 months in advance (wowza!) to get himself to study under pressure.

His debrief 750 (49Q, 44V) - Mastering the Intangibles explains why sometimes it's a good idea to have a fix date ahead of time and avoid scheduling the test when you're "ready." You might never feel ready enough to take the plunge! But what we found most fascinating was his study regimen:

I want to say I studied relentlessly but I did not. I studied in the morning on the train to/from work (30 minutes each way), and I studied at the gym in between sets (Yes, this looks as ridiculous as it sounds. I would do a set of an exercise, then I would quickly go to my GMAT book and do a practice math question - rinse and repeat).

The benefit of studying like this is that it made GMAT studying part of my every day routine, so I would end up studying about an hour each day.

That's some determination to exercising both your mind and your body! Congrats on the score, havok! For the full debrief, click here: 750 (49Q, 44V) - Mastering the Intangibles
