MBA Interviews and Notifications

by giovanniviala » Wed Mar 11, 2009 7:19 am
Hello,

I am Italian and applied to MBA programs in the US. I applied to 5 schools in January and already had interviews for UCLA, Darden and Ross.

Because I got a rather low GMAT (620 - high Q, low V), I am very anxious about the result, which should come out at the end of the month. I believe that my GMAT score is the only weakness in my application (I speak Chinese fluently, have been studying and working in Asia four years, have a British MA with excellent grades) but it makes me worry much.

1) According to your experience, what is the likeliness of being admitted when you got interviewed by these schools ?
2) How is the review process different when you are an international applicant ?

Thanks,

Giovanni

Dear Giovanni,

1) According to your experience, what is the likeliness of being admitted when you got interviewed by these schools ?
The percentage of applicants interviewed and the percentage of applicants admitted after being interviewed varies quite a bit between schools. Some schools choose to interview all applicants and others only interview those they think might be admitted. Depending on how many they interview, how many they will then subsequently accept will also be influenced by other factors. For instance, how many candidates offered admission in round one and then deposited might cause the percentage of third round candidates offered admission to go down. Thus I can't really give you any figures on that, but you should take it as a positive sign you were interviewed by these schools.

2) How is the review process different when you are an international applicant ?
The review process is not really different between international and domestic applicants. There might be more scrutiny on English ability since the programs are taught in English, but the actual process is the same.

Good luck,
Lisa
