what is the number of squares of perimeter 36 into which a rectangle with width 36 and length 72 can be partitioned?

square perimeter : 36
Hence, each side : 9
area of each square : 9*9

area of rectangle : 36*72

Hence, total number of squares that can be carved out of the rectangle:
(36*72) / (9*9)

Let s = side of square
Perimeter of square = 4 * s
Area of square = s²
Area of rectangle = length of rectangle * width of rectangle


Now perimeter of square = 36 implies 4s = 36 or s = 9
So, area of square = 9 * 9 = 81 sq units
Area of rectangle = 36 * 72 sq units
Therefore, required number of squares = Area of rectangle/Area of square = (36 * 72)/(9 * 9) = 4 * 8 = 32 sq units.

The correct answer is D.
