I just took the GMAT for the 2nd time this morning -- got a lousy 550 (Q35 V31).
My first experience with the test was over two months when I got a 530 (Q32 V30). Studying for the first exam comprised of a total review of the Kaplan GMAT Premier and OG 11. I studied for 2 hours per day during the week, and around 6 hours each day on the weekends (from October leading up to my test). I knew that I was weak in quant, with my verbal being my stronger suit. Based on my score, I think two things happened, I didn't have enough stamina to attack the verbal as I thought I would, and nerves got to me. It was also clear that I was lacking basic concept knowledge for both quant and verbal.
So, disappointed after my test I immediatly decided that I was going to beat this test. I went online and purchased the MGMT Sentence Correction and the Kaplan and OG Math Workbooks. I took my time going through both books, creating flashcards of important concepts. I also began to time and track my answers on a excel grid (that I got from this website). I also met with a tutor twice to go over questions that I was having trouble on. I truly thought that I was taking steps to beat the GMAT.
Yesterday I decided to take the day off of work and relax, knowing that I would be saving energy to use this morning. During the test my timing was great for the essays and quant, but for some reason it was really off for the verbal section, which obviously shows by my score. I'm at a loss for words at this point. Do I not have the stamina to complete the test? Does anyone have any suggestions?
The application for my top choice program is due on Monday, and I am stuck turing in a weak GMAT score -- I just hope that my excellent work experience, letters of recommendations, and essays can pull me through...
