I've begun studying for the GMAT and have been hearing of Magoosh and GmatPrepNow a lot between the reddit and GMAT forums.
I was just wondering what your guys' opinion and expereinces on both resources?
Should I use both, is one uncessary with the other, etc.

Bluntly: Is Magoosh worth paying for over the Free GmatPrepNow - and why?

Side-Note: It's been a few years since I last studied for anything and school - is it Ok to write my baseline/practice exam a week or two after studying after I've "warmed-up"?

Hi EliMan,

Since it sounds like you're just beginning your studies, then it would be a good idea to take a FULL-LENGTH practice CAT Test; you can download 2 for free from www.mba.com (and they come with some additional practice materials). If you want to do a little studying first, so that you can familiarize yourself with the basic content and question types, then that's okay - but you shouldn't wait too long to take that initial CAT. That score will give us a good sense of your natural strengths and weaknesses and will help provide a basis for comparison as you continue to study. A FULL CAT takes about 4 hours to complete, so make sure that you've set aside enough time to take it in one sitting. Once you have those scores, you should report back here and we can come up with a study plan.

I'd like to know a bit more about your timeline and goals:
1) What is your goal score?
2) When are you planning to take the GMAT?
3) When are you planning to apply to Business School?

If it helps, here's a recent debrief from Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/GMAT/comments/ ... _diatribe/

I always encourage students to take a practice test VERY early in their studies (within the first week of preparing). I do this for several reasons:

- Students should know, as soon as possible, exactly what they will be preparing for over the coming weeks and months.
- The results of this test help students gauge the amount of work required to reach their target score.
- These practice tests help build confidence, since scores inevitably improve as the student prepares.

If you're interested, I wrote an article on taking a practice test early in one's studies: https://www.gmatprepnow.com/articles/tak ... st-already
