What fraction of all the boxes..?? :s

At a loading dock, each worker on the night crew loaded 3/4 as many boxes as each worker on the day crew. If the night crew has 4/5 as many workers as the day crew, what fraction of all the boxes loaded by the two crews did the day crew load?

A. 1/2

B. 2/5

C. 3/5

D. 4/5

E. 5/8

Answer is E

Can someone please give me a simple solution? I keep picking C, and obviously I am wrong :(

This question is from the OG 12th edition so it is definitely correct.. I just don't see how to get answer E

I got it where we went wrong

Since both of the ratios are in the form night crew to day crew I just assumed the day crew consists of 5 workers, each of which loads only one box per shift. With those assumptions:

Day crew= 5 * 1 = 5 boxes.
Night crew= 4 * 3/4 = 3 boxes.

Total boxes for both shifts = 8.
Total boxes by day crew = 5.

Answer = [spoiler]5/8 (E)[/spoiler]

IMO E
Bn=Boxes loaded at night
Bd=Boxes loaded during the day

Wn=# of workers at night
Wd=# of workers during the day

To answer : Bd/(Bd+Bn) ?
-----------------------
Boxes loaded per worker at night =Bn/Wn
Boxes loaded per worker during day =Bd/Wd

Given that, Wn=4/5(Wd) and Bn/Wn = 3/4(Bd/Wd)

Combining both , we get Bn/Bd = 3/5
Adding 1 both sides, we get (Bn+Bd)/Bd = 8/5 ,so Bd/(Bn+Bd) = 5/8
Smack is Back ...

Simple Solution Approach:

Clue: Always try to take a number that divides the denominator completely.
So Let's assume No.Of day workers = 5
and Load taken by each day worker =4

Total Load Taken by day worker =5*4=20
There for Total Load Taken by night worker = 4*3=12
So Total load by two crew=20+12=32

Reqd fraction = day load/Total Load = 20/32=5/8

Ans:(E)
