Don't find any issue with A :S
C cannot be right, it does not have clear antecedent.

For me, it looks like, a IF - THEN statement.

@ Bubbliii,

when i started solving this question, i looked at the answer choice in the same way as u did, but still i picked D finally as my answer choice because in such questions i always try to follow a static approach....and the approach is asking a question from the modifier...WHO/WHAT...in this question place WHAT before the first phrase
for ex, "WHAT if read closely"....what ans u get...is it THE ATTITUDE OR THE WORK.....obviously WORK....Now u may cast doubt that in D, after comma "MUCH" is there NOT the work, but look, MUCH is a pronoun referring to work....
Op E is wordy and unclear because of the use of BEING

Atul, much is not a pronoun, but an adjective.
Your approach looks good to me, but doesn't it changes the meaning?

Also, I want to know, whether IF is a modifier in conditional statements?

I'm sorry about that "MUCH" error, by mistake

Regarding your query of change in the meaning, please see

solemn (adjective) means serious and without any amusement
morose (adjective) means unhappy

i think that even if u apply these terms to work then the intended meaning will be the same that is attitude...because if we say the work seems unhappy or serious means its the attitude in the work that seems unhappy or serious...

Hi,

No, IF is NOT a modifier in conditional statements, u may get confused why i use the approach which we generally use to solve modifier questions....But i think that all the phrases and clauses must have to logically and sequentially connected...at least in GMAT, Doesn't matter what particular error GMAT is testing and here i find that other answer choices apart from the OA D are not connected in a proper way...i first phrase is indicating to something and that something should come at the first place in the second clause but in all the other choices its not happening..

I already answered regarding That MUCH issue and Meaning change issue in my above post
