Don't wanna post it in "I beat the GMAT", because in my case, "The GMAT beat me".
Anyhow, here's what happened on test day. My appointment was at 1830 Toronto time, I got there at 1800 hrs, encountering some traffic jams which to a certain extent did distract me a bit, but that is not the reason at all for my dismal performance. The test administrator got me done with the palm scanning and ID'ing stuff right away and then asked me I wanted to start, which I did not refuse.
Now, the AWA's went OK, I am not a very good essay writer, but still I think i did pretty well. I took the 8 minute break, after that and then came back and started with the Quantitative. The first few questions I am pretty sure I got them right except for the DS, which has been a constant weakness since I started preparing. By the middle of the Q section I was having a feeling that the questions weren't too hard, but hey, what could I do. I finished the Q section with around 1 minute remaining.
Then I took the 8 minute break again. Came back, started with the V, and I would like to believe that I started off well with the Sentence Correction and the CR questions. The 1st RC that I got wasn't that hard either. I had a feeling that I was getting the CR and SC right, but the I can't say the same for the RC. I was spending too much time on the RC's and it resulted in short handing myself in the end. Around 15 questions remaining on V, I realized only had around 12 mins remaining. I had rush through a couple and the last RC I got, I did not even read it properly and I was guessing at the answers based on my own knowledge and not the passage. Going into the last stretch of the V section, nerves were getting the better of me because I was constantly looking at the timer and couldn't focus on the questions at all. My guess would be I might have got only 50% of the last few questions right.
All in all, it was a dismal day. But I still have the feeling that with the kind of questions I was getting, i should have at least touched 600, 550 is really awful. I have seen questions with the same amount of difficulty level on MGMAT and the GMAT Prep tests, with Overall in the range of 620-670, Q 42-47 and V 29-36.
Anyhow, going back into slumber again for at least 2 months. Just got the MGMAT set of 8 books, will likely focus on it only for the next little while and see what happens.
Just know one thing, I'm not giving up.
