"Little to the left" meaning??

by must82 » Mon Jun 28, 2010 8:47 am
Hi guys,

Recently, One of my friends who is a girl (not one of my girl friends!:) told me "I like people little to the left"
We were talking about people in general( topic was not relating to politics, religion etc...)

Since in general 'left' symbolizes revolutionary, and not conservative people I just assumed she meant sth like that.

What does "little to the left" mean in daily language? I searched that on google, and urban dictionary, couldnt find anything? I am not a native speaker but I lived in America for 4-5 years from 2004-2008 however I havent heard that usage.

Thanks in advance.

basically it means those who are communism not capitalism but your friend doesn't like complete communism and for obvious reason sut there are certain good things about comunism
so she likes a combination of communisim +capitallism ideal combination very rare to find
Ideation without execution is delusion

In informal contexts, when people refer to "left" or being "a little to the left" (outside of politics), it can suggest that someone is slightly unconventional, creative, or open-minded. It might refer to people who think outside the box or who don't adhere to rigid societal norms. Your assumption about it meaning someone more progressive or open-minded could be on track.

"Little to the left" is a phrase often used to give directions or adjustments, typically when positioning something. It means to move the object or yourself slightly to the left. This phrase is commonly used in various contexts, such as:

- Photography: When adjusting the position of a subject or camera.
- Furniture Arrangement: When moving furniture or decorations to achieve the desired placement.
- Everyday Situations: When someone is trying to align or adjust something precisely.

For example, if you're hanging a picture on the wall and someone says, "a little to the left," they want you to move the picture slightly to the left to get it in the right spot.

While you mentioned that the conversation wasn't related to politics, it is possible that she meant she prefers people with liberal or progressive political beliefs.
