The late Japanese mathematician Shizuo Kakutani developed mathematical tools used for disparate purposes including proving the existence of Nash equilibria, accurate description of random processes such as coin-flipping, and the furthering of economists' understanding of supply and demand in a complex economy.

OA:C.
I have this doubt that is very basic but important.
This sentence is about very basic rules of parallelism. Here to get this correct, one just needs to make sure that the three items in the list are parallel.
My doubt emerges when I saw, in this sentence, two rather than three items that need to be parallel.
So,I saw the following items that need be parallel.
1.proving the existence of Nash equilibria
2.the furthering of economists' understanding of supply and demand in a complex economy.
and the middle item, accurate description of random processes such as coin-flipping as modifying the 1 above.
How does one make sure that the items that need to be parallel are three rather than two items and one modifying the 1st one ?
