(A) equivalent to the number of visitors to
hundreds of people is plural whereas the number singular so wrong

(B) the equivalent of those that visited
equivalent of those unidiomatic

(C) equal to those who visited

(D) as many as the visitation to
awkward

(E) as many as visited

b/n B and E B is wordier than e
so IMO E

(C) equal to those who visited
(D) as many as the visitation to
(E) as many as visited
equivalent is wrong because it does not apply to countable nouns. Hence (A) n (B) are out.
(E) is awkward
(D) use of the word 'visitation' is incorrect
(C) is the correct answer
