"Q28:Fossils of the arm of a sloth found in Puerto Rico in 1991, and dated at 34 million years old, made it the earliest known mammal of the Greater Antilles islands.

A. sloth found in Puerto Rico in 1991, and dated at 34 million years old, made it the earliest known mammal of
""Fossils .... found, and dated .., made it ..."" - improper application of tense. does not indicates what happend before - making or dating?
B. sloth, that they found in Puerto Rico in 1991, has been dated at 34 million years old, thus making it the earliest mammal known on
no clear referrent to ""they"", awkward - indicates that sloth is known on GA island, but on outside it.
C. sloth that was found in Puerto Rico in 1991, was dated at 34 million years old, making this the earliest known mammal of
Correct construction: ""Fossils ... found in ... was dates at ..., making this ..."" - ""That"" correctly refers to ""Arm"", and Correct application of tense - Finding happened first, then dating, and finally making. Not sure why ""this"" in participle phrase is correct (may be because it refers to nearest singlar noun in the subject i.e. this refers to sloth "" Fossils .. the arm of a sloth .. making this ..."")
D. sloth, found in Puerto Rico in 1991, have been dated at 34 million years old, making the sloth the earliest known mammal on
Improper tense, changes meaning - indicates that dating made (and not proved) fossil oldest, and before dating,
it was not oldest..

E. sloth which, found in Puerto Rico in 1991, was dated at 34 million years old, made the sloth the
earliest known mammal of
Awkward construction - ""Fossils...sloth which found .. was dated, made"", indicates that sloth was found, dated.
and dating made sloth oldest known."

Any comments on this?

Choice C has used "this"which has no antecendent,
Choice D correctly uses which has made the sloth the oldest...
that makes D correct tenses are correct because have been dated shows that from that moment upto now it is the oldest bird..

It can mean

1. Fossils of the arm of sloth
2. Sloth.

So this makes the situation confusing.
