The mistakes children make in learning to speak tell linguists more about how they learn language than the correct forms they use.

(A) how they learn language than
(B) how one learns language than
(C) how children learn language than do
(D) learning language than
(E) their language learning than do

I would choose A

A- correct

B- "one" is incorrect since "they" is used later in the sentence

C- "do" is incorrect

D- this needs a noun

E- the use of the possessive pronoun "their" is incorrect

I choose C because of the right comparison.

tell linguists more about xyz than do - "more than" and "do" for tell are required here so eliminate A,B, D

between C and E , E uses "thier" which is ambiguous, does not clearly refer to children, hence C is clear answer.

IMO A

B - wrong coz children = plural - one = singular

C - wrong coz the latter part of the underlined sentence doesnt match with the latter part of the non - underlined sentence.

D - wrong coz noun missing.

E- wrong coz their refers to children or linguists ?

Hence A

Hope this helps :)

(A) how they learn language than - they is wrongly refering to the nearest noun i.e. linguists
(B) how one learns language than - incorrect comparison
(C) how children learn language than do - correct .. do is replacement for learn
(D) learning language than - more about X than about Y should have been correct, IMO
(E) their language learning than do - Their is ambiguous
I am on a break !!

A is out because it uses "they" which could refer to either linguists (the closest possible antecedent, and plausible because it is a group of people) or children.

B has problem with "one" and "they"

C is good

D has same problem as A

E has same problem as A/D and is muddled
Don't stop believin'...

It seems that choices 'A' and 'C' are the most popular, but I think Ludacrispat26's reason for excluding choice 'A' is right on the money. Choice 'C' is correct.

Can we have the OAs now please?
I'd still like to go with A

and C still doesnt fit well in the non-underlined part of the sentence IMO

IMO C..
In A.. "they" can refer to either children or lingists.. Ambiguity problem
