Camp David Accords

The Camp David Accords contributed to the eventual peace agreement between Israel and Palestine in that it established a precedent that the leaders of the two nations could sit and discuss their disagreements.

(A) Palestine in that it established a precedent
(B) Palestine, establishing a precedent
(C) Palestine when they established a precedent
(D) Palestine, for a precedent was established
(E) Palestine by the establishment of a precedent


Please explain ur answers.

Ya b is correct.

the rationale in my opinion is as follows:

1. here agreement established the precedent.

2. although it was done in the past, the precedent was established at the time of the agreement.

3 thus we have agreement (cause) precedent (effect) at the same time <=> present continuous tense is appropriate (establishing)

IMO B.

Dimonya's explanation is great and I agree with the reasoning.

Also, B is concise and clear in comparison to other answer choices. A sounds awkward and redundant "in that it established".

What is the OA?

I would go for A

In the above sentence what did Camp David Accord contribute - that it established a precedent.....

IMO A. There really was a toss up between A and B and while I can't point to an error in B other than the fact that present participle doesn't make sense here (precedent was established way back when, why do we need it now??), A also sounds better. And no "in that ...." is not awkward, as a matter of fact this is precisely how it should be used...

IMO B

What "Camp David Accords" established something... IT should refer to Accords.. They should be used in place of IT..
But a use of They will cause Pronoun reference error...

SO B IMO

This questions remembles a lot in OG 11th SC #51.

The answer should be D.

Analysis: (from OG explanation p.# 683)

This sentence depends on using the correct conjunction to join two independent clauses. "in that" is a conjunction that means 'inasmuch as' because "in that" has largely one out of use, it is considered stilted and overal formal. It also uses two words when one would do. (Concise, Brevity for GMAT!!)

In this sentence, the second lcuase explains the first one, so the conjunction "for"; meaning because, is the most appropriate choice for joining the two independent clauses of the compound sentence.

A) "in that" is stilted and overly formal.
B) Iti s not clear who would be doing the "establishing"; a clause is preferable to a phrase here
C)"They" is ambiguous, possibly referring to either "The Camp David Accords" or "Israel and Palestine "
D) ANSWER!!
E) Wordy and awkward construction.
